RJ's World of Star TrekŪ

Ever since I can remember I have been a fan of Star Trek. I remember the first series, Star TrekŪ. Then came Star TrekŪ The Next Generation. Just when we thought it was over they brought out Deep Space Nine. Now I am watching Voyager and totally enjoying it. Mr Rodenberry decided to take Star TrekŪ to the big screen before Star TrekŪ The Next Generation was finished. We Trekkies loved it so much that he made 5 movies. Mr. Rodenberry pasted away before the 6th movie was released. The names of the movies are:


Star TrekŪ The Motion Picture

Stardate:7412.6
Theatrical Release Date: 1979

Kirk reunites his crew to save earth from a machine lifeform called V'Ger



Star TrekŪ ll The Wrath of Khan

Stardate:8130.3
Theatrical Release Date: 1982

Spock dies when a genetic superman named Khan escapes from imprisonment on Ceti Alpha V, commandeers the Reliant and uses Project Genesis to win revenge on James Kirk. The story is a sequel to 'Space Seed' in the original series.



Star TrekŪ lll The Search for Spock

Stardate: 8210.3
Theatrical Release Date: 1984

Kirk steals the Enterprise in an attempt to rescue Spock's body on the Genesis planet.



Star TrekŪ IV The Voyage Home

Stardate:8390.0
Theatrical Release Date: 1986

Kirk and his crew go back in time to get humpback whales to bring forward to the future in an attempt to save Earth. To do this they go back to San Francisco to the year 1986.



Star TrekŪ V The Final Frontier

Stardate:8454.1
Theatrical Release Date: 1989

Sybok, Spock's half-brother, hijacks the Enterprise from Nimbus III after luring her there to pursue his vision of God at the center of the galaxy.



Star TrekŪ VI The Undiscovered Country

Stardate: 9521.6
Theatrical Release Date: 1991

Klingon Chancellor Gorkon is assasinated and an historic peace initiative is nearly thwarted. Kirk and McCoy are wrongly convicted of his murder. This movie was released shortly after the death of Gene Roddenberry. It was also intended as the last voyage of the original crew.

Then Star TrekŪ TNG decided to get onto the big screen. To date they have made two movies. They are:


Star TrekŪ Generations

Stardate:48650.1
Theatrical Release Date:1994

Captains' Picard and Kirk meet in a time nexus and combine forces against a scientist, Soran, who is jeopardizing millions of lives. It also saw the death of the legendary Captain James T Kirk.



Star TrekŪ First Contact

Stardate: 50893.5
Theatrical Release Date: 1996

The Borg go back in time to Earth's past to stop Zefram Cochrane from inventing the warp drive and making 'first contact' with the Vulcans.

I am sure all Trekkies will agree with me when I say that I can't wait for the next movie to come out. I wonder what it is going to be about.

 The Old Series Trivia 

The Star TrekŪ animated series ran for 22 episodes. They ran from October 1974 and continued in reruns through September 1975. This series won an Emmy Award for best children's series of the 1974 - 1975 television season. Here is the list of shows.

Star TrekŪ Original Cast Members

WILLIAM SHATNER
aka Captain James Tiberius Kirk

The original series captain of the Enterprise. He was called a 'cowboy diplomat' and a 'bold stategist'. This made him a formidable force until his death in 'Star TrekŪ Generations'. The Montreal Canada born actor starred in seven Star TrekŪ movies and has authored several books about Star TrekŪ as well as his 'TekWar' novels.

LEONARD NIMOY
aka Mr Spock

He starred in the original series, lent his voice for the animated series, appeared in six of the Star TrekŪ movies, and has appeared on Star TrekŪ The Next Generation in the episode 'Unification'. He directed 'Star TrekŪ III The Search for Spock' and "Star TrekŪ IV The Voyage Home' and was the executive director of 'Star TrekŪ The Undiscovered Country'. He will always be remembered as the logical and reasonable Mr Spock. He is also known for the Vulcan hand sign.

DeFOREST KELLEY
aka Dr Leonard 'Bones' McCoy

He will always be remembered as the spirited and cantankerous 'Bones' McCoy. He lent his voice to the animated series and appeared in the first six Star TrekŪ movies. He also appeared on Star TrekŪ The Next Generation as a 137 year old admiral in the episode 'Encounter at Farpoint'.

JAMES DOOHAN
aka Montgomery 'Scotty' Scott

He played the quintessential engineer that was able to work miracles. Hence the name 'The Miracle Worker'. He appeared in all seven of the Star TrekŪ movies with an appearance on Sta r TrekŪ The Next Generation in the episode 'Relics'. One of the more memorable lines from that episode is Scotty talking to the holodeck computer saying:

"N-C- C-1-7-0-1. No bloody A, B, C, or D".
He also has authored a book about his life in Star TrekŪ called appropriately 'Beam Me Up, Scotty'.

GEORGE TAKEI
aka Hikaru Sulu

He was originally a physicist in the pilot episode 'Where No Man has Gone Before' and then became helmsman for the duration of the three seasons of Star TrekŪ. He appeared in the first six movies and lent his voice to the animated series. He also appeared as captain Sulu in Star TrekŪ The Undiscovered Country.

NICHELLE NICHOLS
aka Lieutenant Uhura

She was the Enterprise's communications officer and an inspiration for young black women as one of the first black women to be cast in a television series. Almost quitting after the first season, she was convinced by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to stay on because of the vital message of hope she provided for other African-Americans. She appeared in the first six Star TrekŪ movies, lent her voice to the animated series and was the first to interacially kiss with William Shatner in the episode 'Plato's Stepchildren'.

WALTER KOENIG
aka Ensign Pavel Chekov

He signed on to Star TrekŪ in the second season as navigator of the Enterprise. His presence acknowledged the role of the soviets in the space race. Koenig also appeared in all seven of the Star TrekŪ movies.
