Today we traveled from near the Wyoming, Idaho, Utah border down to the Great Salt Lake in Utah, then on down through the southeast corner of the state and into Colorado and New Mexico. The Great Salt Lake was kind of a disappointment. It is hugh and amazing to see, but upon closer inspection it appears dirty and run down. Part of the problem was the place that we finally found to view the lake. Looking on the map we were trying to head to Saltair Beach on the southern edge of the lake. We finally found the former resort of Saltair, and found that the park had been closed years earlier, but not taken off the maps. Saltair resort is really run down and appears very bad. On the edge of the lake are thousands and thousands of small flies. They are salt flies that have no interest in people, but sure make it look bad.
Here are a couple views of the campsite we used the previous night. It was located in a forest along a descending road and right next to a stream. It was a very nice spot.
Here is a photo of the Great Salt Lake. You can see how large it appears, and the mountains along the west side.
