We had ended up staying at a nice little county campground in Idaho that I thought was very injustly named. It was the Priest River Campground nicknamed "The Mudhole". It seemed to be a really nice spot as the pictures below can only begin to testify to. We had a nice river side plot away from everyone else, and had a nice dinner along the bank. This was the first night in several days that it was not damp and misty / rainy.
On leaving our campground we entered Washington State and after a short trip by freeway ventured out across the state on back roads. We soon reached the Grand Coulee Dam and Lake. It reminded us a lot of the Hoover Dam in Nevada/Arizona.
From there we approached the Northern Cascade Mountains, and passed over these on the way to the Puget Sound area. We again reached up into the snow belt here, although it seemed a lot more pleasant. On the way down we found numerous small waterfalls, and stopped to take a closer look at one. Click here for a VR Panarama of the river and power plant. There were even some unusual birds alongside one of the rest stops we checked out.
From here we traveled out across the Deception Pass Bridge onto Whidbey Island. Debbie and her former husband had lived here and her oldest child was born here when she was stationed here. We visited some of the sections of the island that she worked at while in the CB's (Construction Battalion) here.
