On Saturday we drove up along the coast from Savanah Georgia to Charleston South Carolina. We had checked out and found a Naval Museum there that we wanted to see. It is called Patriots Point. They have many displays there on various topics. The largest display is the Aircraft Carrier Yorktown.
Here are a couple pictures as we approach the ship. They are (in order)
Side view of the entire ship as we approach from the dock
Good view of the fantail from the dock.
Stage and entrance area.
Looking up from the boarding ladder.
Inside the ship some of the areas were astronomically hugh looking. Here is a view from near the front of the ship looking aft through the hanger deck.
Here is one of the berthing areas where the sailors slept, and one of the restrooms. Compare this with a later picture on this site of one of the submarine's berthing areas.
Also on display are many of the weapons that were used on the Yorktown and it's aircraft. Here area a couple of the gun mounts, and bombs from the aircraft.
Course we had to try out on of the AntiAircraft Guns.
They also had many of the aircraft that served on the ship on display including these in the hanger deck
and once on deck these
They also have several other ships on display including this destroyer and coast guard cutter
and this submarine
Aboard the submarine you can tour the spaces and see the berthing areas (compare this to the previous shot of the Yorktown berthing area)
Here are some other areas on the sub.
Here is a nice picture of the Yorktown as we left for the day.
