96' California Vacation

May 2nd

Today after the conference we traveled down to San Diego (about 90 minute drive) and checked out the World Famous San Diego Zoo. There was a lot of walking, but it was very nice.
Below is a photo of one of their elephants. Do you know which kind (African or Asian)? The answer is in their ears the African species have much large ears (to be able to fan themselves). This was an African elephant.

They have very inventive ways of displaying their animals such as this window into the underwater habitat of a hippo. They can be seen running (swimming) back and forth in their natural environment.

They have a large variety of animals including a large collection on reptiles (both local and exotic). This Komoto Dragon (lizard) is not one that you would want to meet in a dark alley. It is about 6 feet long. They have been know to attack infants.

This cute little one is checking out to make sure that there are no problems nearby. The "towns" always post lookouts like this.
