WILLIAM H. COULSON and HARRIET JOHNSON were the parents of the following child:
In Lineage of the Coulsons, Henry J. Coulson wrote the following about his Uncle William and Aunt Harriet Coulson:
My uncle William Holland Coulson learned the trade of a painter and practiced in Salem, Ohio, shortly before and after his marriage. He went to Oil City, Pa., during the oil excitement there, to work at his trade and while there took lung-fever, after which he always had a clearing-up of his throat, but nothing serious, he died of complication of diseases; bright's disease, being the main cause of his death. He was buried in the cemetery to the left-hand as you go from Kensington to Hanover on the hillside. The same graveyard wherein lies Anna (Reeder) Smith and her children: Austin, Tamar and Ambrose. I was informed that Eva was buried in Minerva, O. William & Harriet, his wife and their son, James, joined the Presbyterian church in Hanover, O.
All people experience a time in life, wherein love is the prevailing element. I do not hesitate to speak of it in its true sense as it always was with these two persons. (I expect to receive censure from my Aunt for expressing my thoughts in this manner.) But the truth, when told with love as the principal subject, I cannot pass it idly by.When these two persons were of the right age to rightly think about courtship, they found a great barrier in their way in the person of her father, who bitterly opposed the attention paid to his daughter, by his next neighbour's son, William. As their parent's farms joined, upon rather a steep hill where-on a peach orchard extended to the linefence, along which there was a hollow-stump or a flat-stone, served as a safe repository for the reception of lover's tokens against the protests of her father. Their post-office no doubt was named Cupid, but it was not given in the ordinary post-office guide, nor in the presence of her father. In this way their courtship continued until t h ey were married and for years after her father continued to reject their presence in almost bitter terms, but at least his heart softened enough to allow them to move into a house on his farm, and after the death of his second wife (Nancy Crawford) he permitted them to move into the house with him, where they took the best possible care of him during the remaining days of his life. His daughter, Georganna died shortly after her mother. She was about thirteen years of age.
I worked with William a good many days and had the opportunity of satisfying myself fully that, they were the happiest persons, while in each others presence, of any persons that I have ever seen or ever expect to see. She was extremely attentive to his wants, while he was at work in the field, she would carry water and the best morsels of the culinary department reached him through her hand. Nothing but the most kind and cheering words were ever used by those two persons to each other, they good naturedly jested frequently about each other, yet, each understood the other. Were all marriages of mankind like this one, we could truthfully say, marriage is not a failure, but the crowning point of love's ambition, and a continuance of this earths most sacred joys.
James Johnson, Harriet's father, was for years crippled with rheumatism so that it was with difficulty he walked at all during the last ten years of his life, having contracted the disease while helping to construct the Sandy & Beaver canal. He and his family were buried in the Gladerun grave-yard.

MARRIED MONTHS, But the happy event is just known. FOREST CARTWRIGHT is wedded to popular Young Lady of Huntington on May 17, 1900. THE DAILY COMMERCIAL. 9.7.1900. Portland, Ind. With the exception of the few who were in the secret the news of the marriage of Forest Cartwright of this city to Miss Mable Holley of Huntington at Greencastle on May 17 last will come as a bit of a surprise. There are some in the city who have had knowledge of the event, but the majority never suspected such a thing. The bride comes from one of the first families of Huntington, was a student of DePauw university and as such stood high in her classes. She is a bright christian young lady, deservedly popular. Forest, who is now in college, will continue to prosecute his school work during the coming year, and expects to graduate next June with honors. Mr. and Mrs. Cartwright will spend the balance at the groom's home, and it goes without saying that they will receive a most hearty welcome from their many friends.

The following article appeared in the Commercial Review, Portland, Indiana, in 1920, regarding a Coulson reunion held Sunday, August 15, 1920:
COULSON FAMILY REUNIONIn September, 1905, William Willett Coulson of Grafton, Wisconsin, for the first time visited his relatives in Jay County. In order that he might visit as many members of the family as possible, a picnic was held on the Charles Miller farm, just west of the city. At this time an organization was effected and meetings have been held annually up to the present date.
The 1920 reunion was held Sunday, August 15, at the fair grounds, with a goodly number in attendance.
After the usual bountiful dinner, served in the spacious dining hall, seats were arranged outside under the shade of the splendid trees that beautify the grounds, and a short program was rendered, presided over by Mrs. Ruth Coulson Miller.
A letter from H. J. Coulson, family historian, was read, regretting his inability to be present; also one from Walter Ross McShea, who is a member of the State Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania, and who has furnished us with history of the Coulsons that reaches back several centuries. A letter from Mrs. Sarah E. Slager, of Springfield, Ohio, gave interesting and valuable data. J. C. Coulson and family, of La Harpe, Ill., sent regrets, also a copy of the "La Harper," of which he is editor.
A feature of interest to the reunionists was a photograph sent by A. N. Coulson of Baltimore, Md., showing the home of Thomas Coulson built in 1745, a part of the material of which was brought from England.
The reunion song was sung, after which Master Carl Stilwell rendered two clever readings, and Mrs. W. C. Cartwright read "A Letter to a Convalescent," which concluded the program.
Of particular interest in this article is the fact that a letter from Mrs. Sarah E. Slager was read which included "interesting and valuable data." We have not been able to tie Mrs. Slager's tree (one of many stories of four Coulson brothers who came over from England) into this tree. [NOTE: If anyone knows the whereabouts of this letter fromMrs. Slager, or the letter from Mr. McShea, please e-mail me.]
