Month by Month

In January we might see some snow.
Is the snow a friend or foe?
If the snow would fall only on the grass and the trees,
And leave the sidewalks and roads alone, if you please.
This month we honor Martin Luther King,
For breaking down the segregation wall,
For the people in our country standing tall.

In February all the sweethearts want to say,
To each other to have a Happy Valentines Day.
We honor George Washington---the first president,
And we honor Abraham Lincoln---the sixteenth president.
Their ideas should inspire us to trust,
That keeping our freedom is a must.

In March the weather changes.
We hear the wind day after day,
And the clouds in the sky can turn very gray,
We say to ourselves that spring is on the way.

In April we have days with lots of rain,
We sometimes think that this wet weather is quite a pain.
But the rain helps the flowers to grow,
We'll see their beautiful colors in the garden row by row.
We'll smell the flowers' sweet smells,
Including the daisies and the bluebells.

In May the weather grows warmer and the days get longer,
Being out in the fresh air makes a person feel a lot stronger.
In the gardens and parks, we take long walks,
And in these walks with our friends, we talk and talk.

In June the children are very happy
Because school is over for the summer,
And more flowers will awake from their slumber.
We'll see the tulips, lilies, and roses,
Showing their beauty through their many poses.

In July we celebrate the 4th of July,
Gaining independence that was won for every girl and guy.
The summer weather becomes very hot,
In the pools to keep cool, we swim a lot.

In August the vegetables in our garden become ripe,
And the grass loses its green,
People take their vacations away from the local scene.
They travel to places like the seashore,
To enjoy being in the sunshine when the ocean roars.

In September the children go back to school,
In order to learn the golden rule.
In the evenings the weather starts to cool,
We bring out our sweaters made of wool.

In October the leaves on the trees
Change from green to beautiful colors of orange, yellow, and red.
These leaves gently fall from the trees
With the help of a delightful breeze.
At the end of the month is Halloween,
At this time the witches, ghosts, and goblins can be seen.

In November we celebrate Thanksgiving.
Families get together to be thankful for many things,
And to eat the turkey and pumpkin pie that everyone brings.
At the end of the meal, everyone is contented and happy.
They are thankful for their family and their friends, old and new,
Thinking of the kind things for others that they will do.

In December the weather becomes colder with a chance of snow,
We will decorate each package with ribbon and a pretty bow.
We hope that this holiday season
Brings everyone happiness and peace,
And we hope that the fighting in all parts of the world will cease.
