Derailment at Centralia, WA - 1979
This derailment occurred in 1979 just south of Blakeslee Jct at the south end of the Skookumchuck River bridge. All of these photos were taken by me with an old 110 instant camera. A large, blue road crane was driven down the tracks (straddling the rail) from the Third St. Crossing in Centralia (about a quarter mile from the derailment) to pick up the cars and re-rail the locos.

A close-up of the derailed cars. The river is just behind the cars, and the red ATSF car is almost in the drink! |

After getting the lead locomotive back on the track, it was parked on the passing track in Centralia while the rest of the line was cleared. The loco behind in this photo is the 2nd derailed unit. |
|
The same day, the WAM derailed at Rochester. This is it's caboose and a few log cars that came in on the wreck train. |

More salvaged log cars and the wreck train's caboose. |
