Knotty Roots and Gnarled Branches

So many of my ancestors were born without having had parents, had children of their own without benefit of spouses, and were buried without dying or simply vanished without a trace that tracing their heritage is very difficult. To further complicate the difficulty they immigrated without having emigrated and arrived in America from Europe without ever having been onboard any ship. They have bequeathed us a family tree with knotty roots and gnarled branches. At least we don't have root rot as they never remained to long in any one place before disappearing yet again. Our challenge is to undo the knots in our roots and straighten the gnarled branches of our family tree. A challenge not for the feint hearted or easily discouraged. Searching for our ancestors, learning about their lives, their challenges, hopes, dreams, concerns, fears and frailties is a never ending quest. It is a journey often begun alone but, sooner or later, we discover others seeking the same people. Together we are able to find more about our ancestors than we can alone. The first steps on the journey are to identify persons by name, date, place and relationship to others thus the purpose of Knotty Roots is to share information with others whose quest is for our common families.
My links will lead to pages concerning our families. If you can add or correct any information, I would be grateful to hear from you.
