Samuel moved to Kingston, Ulster, NY before 1745, where bans were registered 18 Aug 1745 between Samuel and Maria. On 10 June 1746 Samuel purchased 15 acres in Ellington Parish from his brother Ebenezer, and he returned there with his family before 21 Nov 1746, when he purchased more land and a house. In 1756 Samuel was taxed in East Windsor, where he lived in the Scantic Parish.

In 1811 Jacob sold his farm and mill at Windsor Locks and purchased a lot in the Western Reserve of Connecticut, which was Warrensville Twp, Cuyahoga Co, Ohio. In June of 1812 Jacob and most of his family set out for Ohio, arriving at Warrensville late in August, 1812. This area is now a suburb of Cleveland, called Shaker Heights.
[NI3461] In 1770 Stephen Russell purchased land in Westfield, MA from his future father-in-law, Samuel Fowler, in the area that later became Southwick. Marriage banns published 10 Sep 1771. Stephen enlisted in the Revolutionary War as a Private in Capt. Silas Fowler's Southwick company of Minutemen 21 Apr 1775 under Col. Danielson's Regiment, with Lt Col Shepard of Westfield in command. They marched to Roxbury, in answer to the Lexington Alarm, and served 21 days before returning home. In Oct 1783 Stephen bought land in Colebrook, Litchfield Co, CT, and the family soon settled there. In 1795 his land was sold by the sheriff, and Stephen was ordered to Litchfield jail until he paid a debt of £33.15.8. The entire family then moved to Mamakating, Ulster Co, NY, which later became Lumberland, and then Liberty, in present Sullivan Co.

He served in the fortification of New York on the Brooklyn Front. He was reported as missing in action at the Battle of Long Island, 27 Aug 1776. He was captured by the British and imprisoned for about four months in the Old Jersey Prison Ship. Soon after being exchanged he enlisted as a Sergeant in Col Philip B. He was awarded a cummutation bounty land warrant of 200 acres in lieu of pay for his service, but he never received the land. Shortly after 1795 Cornelius and his family settled at Randolph, Orange Co, VT.
[NI3509] In late May 1778, at the age of sixteen, he went to visit relatives at Springfield and Wilbraham, MA. While at Wilbraham he enlisted about 1 Jun 1778 in the Revolutionary War as a Private in the Continental service for nine months. He joined the Continental Army at West Point, NY.
