[NI457] Samuel Scott was admitted a proprietor, by act of the town, 30 Dec 1684, receiving half an allotment of £100. He received, at the same time, a house lot on the east side of Bank street, all on condition that he should build a house according to the articles, and live in the town four years after building. He was not in the town soon enough to have an early division of fence, or an old town plot eight acre lot; but he was among those who participated in the land division of 1688, after which time his name disappears from the lists of proprietors. He did not remain long in the town after his propriety right had been secured. He probably left in 1689 or 1690. On 28 Apr 1691, he as "of Farmington," and at that date sold and conveyed to his brother Jonathan all his lands, divided and undivided, in Waterbury, including his house and house lot of two acres.
[NI463] Died at age 85.

[NI1887] George Gates and his sister, Mary Ann, were early members of the LDS Church. They were present with the church in Kirtland, Ohio, and later at Nauvoo, Illinois. They were both part of the trek west to Utah in 1847. In Ohio George married Clarissa Foote, and had 2 children. In 1839 they moved east of Quincy, Illinois, and then near Nauvoo, Hancock Co, Illinois. By 1840 his wife and children had all died. At Nauvoo George married Elizabeth Woodson. With Elizabeth he crossed the plains to Utah in 1847. After reaching the Salt Lake Valley in September 1847, George and Elizabeth were one of the first to locate at Mill Creek. He made a home for his family and took up farming land. Here he planted some of the first apple trees in Utah. While living at Mill Creek, George met and married Mary Smith, Harriet Hacking, and Elizabeth (Webster) Bennett. Here he also met and married Maria Liversedge. Maria died in 1863 of an inflammation of the lungs, after which George's second wife, Elizabeth Woodson Gates raised their children. George moved his family to Parley's Park for several years, where they had a dairy. In 1869 George moved his family to Kanosh, in Millard Co, and settled on Corn Creek. In 1871 they moved to Salina, Sevier Co. They lived at Salina in the winter and in Redmond in the summer, again running a dairy.
