[NI2709] The identity of Felix is not known for certain. It seems most likely that she was the sister of Giles Whiting of Hartford, CT, who left his whole estate to his "brother William Lewis and his children."

[NI2706] Resident of Farmington, CT by 1645. Sgt., Farmington Train Band, May 1649; Lt. of same, Oct 1651. Capt. of Farmington Co, 1674. He was the first Recorder or Town Clerk of the town on its incorporation in 1645.

[NI3501] In April 1775 Cornelius served 5 days in the Revolutionary War as a Corporal in Captain Hayden's Windsor Co on the Lexington Alarm. On 7 May 1775 he enlisted as a Private in Capt. Elijah Robinson's Co, later Capt. Enos's 3rd Windsor Co, in Col Spencer's 2nd Regiment, serving seven months, and was discharged 18 Dec 1775. He immediately reinlisted in Capt. Ebenezer F. Bissell's Windsor Co, Col Jedediah Huntington's 17th Continental Regiment. At New York 12 Aug 1776 he was promoted to Sergeant Major of the 17th Regiment of Foot. He served in the fortification of New York on the Brooklyn Front. He was reported as missing in action at the Battle of Long Island, 27 Aug 1776. He was captured by the British and imprisoned for about four months in the Old Jersey Prison Ship. Soon after being exchanged he enlisted as a Sergeant in Col Philip B. Bradley's 5th Regiment of the Conn. Line. On 1 Jan 1777 he was appointed Ensign. In May 1777 he enlisted in Capt Abner Prior's Co, 4th Conn. Regiment for three years. He was at the Battle of Germantown 4 Oct 1777; at Valley Forge winter 1777-1778; Battle of Monmouth 27 Jun 1778; Redding 1778-1779; Morristown Huts 1779-1780; Conn. Village 1780-1781; Peekskill, NY June 1781; Phillipsburg July 1781. In August 1781 he was attached to Lt. Col. Hamilton's Light Regiment, Gen. Lafayette's Light Division, having marched to Yorktown with Gen. Washington, and served there until the Yorktown surrender 19 Oct 1781. He served until June 1783, and was discharged with the rank of 1st Lt. and retired at half pay. Cornelius was an original subscriber and member of the Society of the Cincinnati. He was awarded a cummutation bounty land warrant of 200 acres in lieu of pay for his service, but he never received the land. Shortly after 1795 Cornelius and his family settled at Randolph, Orange Co, VT.
