He was also a volunteer fireman, an Odd Fellow, a Republican county committeeman and a city councilman for a short time. He worked for a timber company and later owned the Westside Grocery on N. Rogers St in Olympia, WA. He owned what is now known as "The Lybarger House" on Boundary St in Olympia. A street in Olympia is also named after him.
