[NI4823] At the outset of the American Revolution he was a loyalist, and joined the British Army and served as a Sgt. through the war, receiving a bullet in the shoulder which he carried to his death. In 1783, with thirty-five other loyalist Americans, he was forced to emigrate and settled in St John, New Brunswick, Canada. His younger brother, John, went with him. At his death he owned the most extensive tannery in the city.

[NI6708] Served in the Capt. Evan Cessna's Co of Bedford County, Pennsylvania militia during the Revolutionary War. In the 1790 census, Thomas is listed as head of a family of 7 in Bedford Co, PA. At about the time of his father's death (1795) he moved to Maryland. His is listed in the 1800 census in Sandy Creek Hundred as head of a family of ten. In 1814 he bought 113 acres of land near the McMullen farm at Blooming Rose. Thomas and his wife, Margaret, are probably buried in the old Hall Graveyard on Blooming Rose.
[NI6746] He lived on the south side of Muddy Creek at Methany Mills, Preston Co (then Monongalia Co), VA in 1810. In Allegany Co, MD by 1819, and is listed there in the 1820 census. By 1850 was in Barbour Co, VA (now WV.)
[NI6140] Nathaniel Casteel settled on military lots 4106 and 4108 at Sang Run, Maryland. He and his wife Jane are buried on the Casteel Farm.
