Joseph Allen was the first Deacon of the Church in the Middle Precinct, Braintree, organized 10 Sep 1707. He was Cornet of a Troop of Horse; Assessor of Braintree, 1706; Town Treasurer, 1707; Selectman, 1707, 1714, 1715; Representative 1715. There is no will of his on record, nor any settlement of his estate.

Mrs. Lydia Allen's will is dated 2 Apr 1745, and proved 11 Jun 1745, recorded in Suffolk Probates, Vol 37:267. She mentions her sons John Holbrook and Abiah Holbrook, dau Elizabeth Wales, son William Hunt, dau. Hannah Dyer, grandsons Samuel and Joseph, sons of her son Samuel Holbrook, grandson Nathaniel Wales, and her dau Sarah Hunt, deceased.
