[NI1605] Like his brother John, Adam Hurd's name first appears in Stratford records in the 1649-50 list of fencing around the Old Field. Residence: Stratford, CT 1650-69. He was a member of First Church Stratford, 14 May 1669, when he signed a petition to the General Court. Adam's wife probably came with him to Stratford, since full home-lots were seldom assigned to unmarried men, but her identity is probably completely unknown, even her first name. She certainly was not Hannah, daughter of John Bartram, who was not yet six when Adam died. Adam's wife had most certainly died before Adam. His inventory was dated 8 Nov 1675, and oath made by John Hurd Jr 2 Mar 1676.
[NI1594] John Hurd Jr was a member of First Church, Stratford, when on 14 May 1669 he joined with his father Adam in a petition to the General Court. In 1678 he moved with his family to Woodbury, where he became the town miller. Here he built a house, about 1680, now owned and restored by the Old Woodbury Historical Society. Though he moved to Woodbury, he was not a member of Second Church Stratford which became the Woodbury Church. John Hurd Jr was a miller and millwright, and bought a mill in Woodbury on 16 Sep 1678. On 29 Apr 1688 John Hurd and his wife joined the Woodbury Church. On 20 Dec 1690 there was a settlement or agreement between Anna Hurd, widow, and children Joseph, Benjamin, Ebenezer, and Sarah, about an estate that was lately John Hurd's of Woodbury dec'd. It was approved in the Fairfield County Court on 1 Nov 1698, and recorded at Woodbury 8 Feb 1728/9.
