Richard was a member of the Mormon Batallion. He married Elizabeth Dobson at Council Bluffs, IA, just before he left with the Battallion. She crossed the plains with his family, and Richard later joined her in Salt Lake City, where their first child was born. Richard and Elizabeth helped settle Provo and Ephraim, and later moved to Scipio, where Elizabeth lived the rest of her life. rons. Elna Ivie Wood, a granddaughter of James A Ivie, calculated a total of 14 Ivie family members were among the original settlers of Provo. They arrived at the Provo River on April 1, 1849.

Son of William Belden, of Wethersfield, CT. On 16 Sep 1696 Indians came up the Green River to the town of Deerfield and attacked Daniel Belden's house. Daniel's wife Elizabeth, and their children Daniel, John and Thankful, were all killed. Children William, Richard, Mary, Sarah, Samuel, Abigail, survived, though Samuel and Abigail were wounded. Daniel, along with his children Elizabeth, Nathaniel and Esther were taken captive by the Indians.
