[NI3410] John was a minor when his father died, and still not of age in 1606 when he is mentioned in the will of his grandfather, who left him £40 to be paid when he reached the age of 21. Sailed from England 22 June 1632, on the ship "Lyon," arriving in Boston 16 Sept 1632. Freeman, MA, 6 Nov 1632; deputy, May 1634, Mar 1634-5, May 1635, Mar 1635-6, and May 1636. Removed to Hartford, CT, in 1636. Townsman 1638. He was one of the Committee, who for the first time sat with the Court of Magistrates, 1637, and Deputy every following year until 1654 when he was chosen Assistant. He was also Treasurer of the colony, 1654-1659, and one of the two Commissioners of the New England Colonies.
[NI4175] Barbour says daughter of John Mott and Alice Warrington. He cites History of Hartford Co as saying she is daughter of Mark Mott of Braintree, son of Thomas Mott of Sheme? Hill, Essex, England.
[NI17267] He came with his parents and sisters in the ship "Lyon" in 1632. Freeman, Hartford, CT, 1652; Townsman, 1653; deputy, 1660, 1661; chosen Treasurer to succeed his father, 17 May 1660, which office he held until 1676 when he resigned and was appointed to the command of the troops raised for King Phillip's War. He was ensign in 1650, captain in 1660, and later a lieutenant-colonel. He obtained great renown as an Indian fighter. He was one of the patentees named in the Charter of 1662.

[NI5242] Collector for Court of Common Pleas for Sussex Co, NJ, 1758. Will dated 1 June 1770, proved 8 Aug 1770. Refers to his wife, oldest son, Peter, not 24 years of age, son John, and refers to other children, but not named.
[NI5246] Peter was a farmer and an extensive land owner. Among his holdings were lands on the Pohatcong Creek. His home was near what is now Carpentersville, Warren Co, NJ. In 1797 he represented his district in the New Jersey Assembly. Will dated 5 Sep 1818, proved 2 Jul 1827. Names wife Margaret; brothers, Christopher, John and Jacob; and sister, Margaret Weller.
[NI4588] He became one of the most extensive land owners in Sussex Co, NJ. Among his holdings were the site of the present city of Phillipsburg, NJ, and the rich flat lands adjoining it. On 9 May 1795, he bought from Andrew Pearce of VA, one-half interest in a 1215 acre tract of land on Lopitcung Creek. He later sold 23 acres of the land to Valentine Beidelman of Greenwich, and on this land the famous Beidelman Mills were built. Will dated 28 Dec 1829, proved 15 Oct 1831. It names his wife, Jamima, and sons, Peter and Jacob, and his daughter, Lucinda, not 18 years of age. It also names his grandsons, John Sharps and Isaac, sons of Philip Fine, Esq.
[NI5248] Jacob and Margaret (Shafer) Sharps lived in Greenwich, their homestead being situated on the Pohatcong Creek and adjoined that of Jacob Sharps' brother, Peter. His wife was living in 1814 when, with her, he deeded 83 acres of land to his son John, but was probably deceased 2 Apr 1816, when he deeded 80 acres of land adjoining lands of Abraham Carpenter and C. Melick to Balser Carpenter. In 1816 Jacob Sharps came to the Wyoming Valley, PA, and on 24 Sep 1816 bought 42 acres of land in Exeter Twp. On 6 Jan 1820, Jacob Sharps came into possession of the Capt. George Taylor property at what was later Wyoming, PA. On 18 June 1821, Jacob Sharps bought 311 acres of land in Kingston. Will dated 9 Apr 1835, proved 6 Nov 1843. He was a member of St. James' Lutheran Church at Phillipsburg, NJ, and in 1772 was one of the signers of the Articles of Faith.
