* My selection of names for the divisions are arbitrary. Prior to about 10 years ago, there were 4 divisions:
  1. Heavyweight: 200 & Up Pound Division
  2. Light-heavyweight: 150 - 199 Pound Division
  3. Middleweight 100 - 149 Pound Division
  4. Lightweight: Under 100 Pound Division
as shown in the Wrestling section of the Loch Norman Highland Games' main page.
There was no separation of minors from adults nor were there separate divisions for females.  There being no men under 100 pounds, the weight divisions (to an extent) took care of separating the adults from the kids.  A girl joined in in wrestling only rarely.  Today there usually is Kids' (Bairns') Wrestling with several divisions, which vary as needed.  I therefore felt free to designate kids' divisions, as needed.

After Triad 2004 Wrestling, I put all the boys under 120 pounds, in one division (for the purpose of listing on this web page how the wrestlers placed), because from the lightest boy to the heaviest, the lightest wrestled someone who wrestled someone .... who wrestled the heaviest, up to about 115 pounds.  To give their table of matches a name (title), I decided to designate their division the "Under 120 Pound Division" & felt that would be ok since many different divisions have been designated for the children as needed (from games to games), depending on the weight & age of the children wanting to wrestle at a particular games.

The two heaviest boys (Harlan 148 lbs. & Dan 230 lbs.) did not wrestle the rest of the boys (who weighed under 120 lbs.). Dan should have been in the "Over 200 Pound Division" & Harlan in the "100 to 149 Pound Division", so I arbitarily split the difference & said they were both in the "150 to 199 Pound Division", so I would have title for my table.  In rare cases when we did not have an opponent for someone, boys of different divisions have wrestled, if they wanted to, so this is not unheard of. I (James Green III, the webmaster of this page) on studying my notes & the video I shot, have assigned wrestlers to 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th place, so this is not official, but merely my recommendation.  Info is missing for Riley, Nat, & James because I did not know they were going to wrestle & so did get to ask for the info before the wrestling started & did not have time to ask during the wrestling & did not realize I was missing info until they were gone.

1 There were no scales at the games on which to weigh the wrestlers. The weights recorded here are what they told me they thought they weighed.  Many may be off by 10 or 15 lbs.

2 The reason we have more than 1 boy in 2nd, 3rd, & 5th place, is the boys toward the end, picked who they wanted to wrestle & did not challenge their equals in every case to establish who was the better wrestler.  Perhaps it was more fun this way.  I was video taping & taking notes, but only now see who needs to wrestle whom, to establish one champion for 2nd, 3rd, 5th, etc. place.

3 Riley McGinty is awarded 4th place because:

  • Riley challenged & fought the boys who placed above him in 2nd & 3rd place (i.e. Moffit & Rock), while the boys in 5th place did not challenge anyone in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place. AND
  • Riley beat all 3 boys in 5th place. The only exception is Nat Deardorf beat Riley in the 6th match, but Riley beat Nat in the 13th match. Nat might have been a contender for 4th place had he not lost in 2 out of 3 matches to James Faber who had in turn lost to Riley in the match 7.

4 Nat (the most powerful boy in 5th place) would have perhaps deserved to be the 5th place champion (pushing Faber & Hale to 6th place) for beating Riley in match 6, but:

  • Nat lost two matches to James Faber (match 8 & 16) while only beating James Faber once (match 12) and
  • Nat never challenged & wrestled Grady Hale

5 James Faber might have deserved to be the 5th place champion (pushing Nat & Hale to 6th place) for beating Nat in two matches while Nat only beat James Faber in one match, but:

  • Faber never beat Riley whereas Nat did beat Riley in one of two matches and
  • Faber never challenged & wrestled Grady Hale

6 Grady Hale deserves to be included in 5th place because no beat him but Riley who is awarded 4th place.

  • W = Won the fall
    L = Lost the fall
Below, Wins & Losses are shown under each wrestler's name in the order that they occurred in the match.  The matches are listed below in the order they took place. The info on the matches are from a combination of my video tape & my notes that I took as I video taped.

Eventually I hope to put stills or animated gifs of some of these falls on the web, if there is interest, so email me to encourage me and visit this web page occassionally, if you are hoping to see graphics.  To email me, email BroomDNA@Juno.Com.

Boys were not allowed to wrestle girls.  This match
was unofficial & done privately by Kattie & Parker.

7 Brown has its own tartan & is allied to Clans Douglas, Lamont, & MacMillan per Tartan For Me! 1998
Brown is just allied to Clans Lamont, & MacMillan per Collins Scottish Clan & Family Encyclopedia 1994
Brown is just allied to Clans Lamont, & MacMillan per Scots Kith & Kin
Brown is just allied to Clans Lamont, & MacMillan per Robert Bain's Clans & Tartans of Scotland 1968
I did not think to ask for what Clan this family has chosen to compete.
It could be that they chose a clan from a different ancestor than their BROWNs.

8 I did not think to ask for what Clan Dan Gardner has chosen to compete.
It could be that he chose a clan from a different ancestor than his GARDNERs.

9 I did not think to ask for what Clan these boys have chosen to compete.
It could be that they chose a surname from their ancestry that is a clan or allied to a clan.

10 FABERs are supposed to wear Perthshire District tartan per Tartan For Me! 1998, but Districts are not clans & do not have clan tents & people generally pick a different ancestor's surname that is a clan or allied to a clan.  My surname is GREEN & GREENs are supposed to wear Roxburgh District tartan, but I pick another surname from among my ancestors (that I know are Scottish) & which is the name of a clan.  Family legend says my GREENs are Irish & being southern I doubt mine were Catholic so I assume they are Scotch Irish & thus Scotch, but prefer to pick an ancestry that is definite & not based on a family legend, besides which GREENs are not allied to any clan so that would not give me a clan for which to compete.

The blow by blow description of the 2nd fall has not yet been written.

The above 2 movies were shot by Parker's sister, Jillian HOY with her digital camera & compressed on her computer (which is running XP).  Her camera shot the movies as AVI files which were 3.8 & 4.1 MB, before being compressed to the above WMV files.  They play on her computer with Windows Media Player & __.  These movies play on my computer (which is running Windows 95) using Windows Media Player Version 6.4.07.1112 but Real Player said I needed a plug-in to play these movies & they have no plug-in for Windows 95 & no longer support Real Player for Windows 95.  I find that Quick Time Movie Player Version 3 will not play the WMV files, but will play the original AVI files, but because the AVI files are about 4 MB, I did not put the AVI files on the web.

    Under Construction
    I plan to add:
    1) stills from the analog video.  If anyone took pictures & would like for me to add them to this page, let me know.
    2) HOYs have movies of Jake SMITH vs. Parker HOY. I plan to put them on the web.
