Notes:
Born in 1703 migrated to Ireland and then on to USA. Married Maria Magdelene. They
brought two children with them, Anna Margaret born 1723 and D. Micalle. The surname
changed several times from arrival until approximtely 1770s. The changes came
apparently from census takers and other officials as they attempted to sound out
the spelling. Some of the spellings include: Glantz, Glance, Claunch, Clonts and
Clontz. The current spelling was finalized when the two grandsons of Hieronymus
Glantz fought in the Revolutionary War. Pension records are on file for George and
Jeremiah Clontz. These are two sons of D. Micalle Glantz who became known as John
Michael Clontz. Hieronymus Glantz ended up settling in Virginia. His grandsons
moved on to North Carolina and many generations still live in that area.
