My cat is a long hair Tabby Manx, Cymric, because I have one and her name is Bandit. She is just over one year old and she has no tail at all. I like my cat the best because she is playful and she likes to do bad things like sleep in the wrong places. She also does really bad things like climbing to the top of the door and then she can’t get down. Once she ran up the coat rack and scratched my dad’s leather jacket. |
Manx cats are special because they don’t have a tail. Manx cats are said to come from the lisle of man, halfway between England and Ireland. This is where the name Manx comes from. There are many legends about where Manx cats came from. The most interesting one is that the Manx was the last animal to get on Noah’s Ark, and Noah slammed the door on its tail just as it jumped aboad. The Manx howled, pulled, and were safe inside, but their tails were lost. Another story says that warriors used the tails to decorate their helmets. There are four different kinds of Manx. Rumpies are completely tailless. Rumpy-risers have a very small tail. Stubbies have a short tail stump that can move and is curved or kinked. Longies have an almost normal, but shorter tail. The Manx have a short back and long hind legs which makes them move like a rabbit. This called the Manx hop They’re sometimes nicknamed the rabbit-cat. They can be any colour or pattern. They are known to be smart and can be trained. Even though they don’t have a tail they can hunt and climb trees. They are fast runners. They are friendly and loving and make very good pets. They are playful and good retrievers. They also have a very quiet soft voice that is like a squeak. They have long lives without aging. Sometimes the Manx cat likes to stand watch on the top of trees and fences. My cat likes to keep watch lying on the tops of doors and the coat rack. The Cymric breed is special because it only started to get recognition in the late 1970’s. The name Cymric is the Celtic word for “Welsh” and was the name given to the long haired Manx. | ||||||||||||||||
