The name Coonts was not spelled right on the record. It was spelled Coons.
When James L. Coonts died Elizabeth spelled her name Coones. She did not cross the T in Coonts.

2. CLARK2 COONTS (JAMES L.1) was born 1842 in Parke, Indiana, and died June 26, 1869 in Missouri. He married ELIZABETH L. SIMPSON January 01, 1863 in Rolla, Douglas, Missouri.
Notes for CLARK COONTS:
Civil War Pension Records state, the children of Clark Coonts tried to get pension money after he died. Children llived with grandparents after their mother and father died. Grandparents are James and Elizabeth Coonts. Clark enlisted first in Company E- Phelps Missouri, Infantry, Volunteer, on Nov. 20, 1861. The regimental discriptive book gives person description as age 22, Height 5 foot 9 inch. complexion dark, eyes as gray, hair as brown, borne in Parke County, Indiana and occupation as farmer. Then he enlisted in Company G, 48th Missouri Infantry. While in Company E he contracted Measles and developed a cough and weakness. The cough developed into Consumption or TB which plegded him the rest of his life.
