The St. Bernard Adult Choir is under the direction of Patrick Menard, with organ accompaniment by Beth Hebert. The choir is one of the largest in the parish. We perform every Saturday afternoon at the four o'clock mass. The Choir includes: Sopranos- Elaine Darby, Lou Dauterive, Sandra Dugas, Mary Faccion, Shelba Guidry, Virginia LeBlanc, Donna Morgan, Marian Morvant, Tina Olivier, Debbie Reed, Carla Richard, Audrey Thibodeaux, and Gayle Touchet; Altos- Marcia Angelle, Cleo Bernard, Ann Escoyne, Gayle Guidry, Adria Hebert, Angel Thibodeaux, Sandie Thibodeaux, and Vickie Thibodeaux; Tenors- Tom Guidry, Martial Landry, John Oxley, and Wade Vincent; Bass- Darrell Comb, Harvey Dupuis, and Richard Hebert. The Choir puts on an annual Christmas Concert for the public at St. Bernard Church. This past year's selection included upbeat Christmas favorites, soothing, legato pieces, and traditional Christmas Carols. Performing at the First Annual Bayou Boat Parade in Breaux Bridge, the choir won many "fans" from the public. The parade was hosted by Pellerin Life Insurance, and Pellerin Funeral Homes to promote Breaux Bridge's reputation. Many community choirs, dance teams, and the Acadian Youth Symphony Orchestra performed. During the week of the parade, barges were lined up along the Bayou Teche decorated with Christmas lights. On the first and last nights of the parade, a spectacular fire-works display closed the evenings of music, fun, lights, and family-time. As a fund-raiser, the choir published a cookbook called "Cooking in Harmony." Seen below, the cookbook is an attractive collection of local cuisine and culture. The book consists of recipes from the parishioners of St. Bernard. Many of these recipes hold within them more than just a good dish. Most of them have a story hidden inside the words. In southern Louisiana, food is a major part of family life. Traditional recipes are handed down from mother or father to son or daughter. Purchase one of our cookbooks and not only get great recipes but learn about Louisiana culture. To purchase a cookbook, contact Shelba Guidry or Patrick Menard at Pellerin's Funeral Home at (318) 332-2111 or send me an e-mail at the address listed below. Each book is reasonably priced at $10.00. | |||||||||||||||||
