The Joseph McAllister you are looking for may be the son of John McAllister

Sr. John's will was proven in Campbell Co. Va. 14 April 1818 ( will book 4

pg 314). He list son's John, James, Thomas, Joseph and William C. and wife

Elizabeth ( who may be Elizabeth McReynolds). The names McAllister, Helm,

McReynolds, Elliott, Dejarnett, and Steel appear on several land exchanges

in Campbell, Halifax, and Pittsylvania Co. Va. starting abt 1786. They all

seemed to have owned land in the corner of these three Co's along the

Staunton River in the area of Long Island and Seven Islands. They

wittnessed deeds and bought and sold land along Straight Stone Cr.

Pittsylvania Co., Hill Creek and Whipping Creek Campbell Co. and Buffalo

Creek Halifax Co.

I feel John McAllister Sr. was the son of William Mackallister( just a

feeling). William's will was proved in Halifax Co. 26 July 1824 (Will book

14 pg 248). He list the following children: William, James, Edmond, Daniel,

Betsy Luck, Molly Thomas, Sally Lester, Patsy Collins. He also list two

Granddaughters: Nancy and Betsey daughters of my son John McAllister.

I am also researching this family and would like to exchange any info. with

you.

Richard is also referred to as Richard McCallister of Turkey Creek. The only McAllister in Kanawha county that shows a male in Richard's age range in 1820 is Joseph.

On a list by William Wood, 1820-1822 marriages, 6th item is:

Pat McCallister sent me a 22 Aug 1874 deed from Putnam Co (Pat what book # and was this page 20 or 150? I see both on it). Other than census data, I think this may be the first document I've found with Jason and William Hamilton mentioned! Now remember that their mother Cynthia McCallister died sometime between 1870 & 1874 because her husband John Eli Kirk remarried in 1874. Her previous husband was Richard of the J04 line. Calvary McCallister served as the guardian of Wesley Goulsby and Cynthia Ann McCallister, they had an accounting in Putnam County, WV in February, 1882. By that time Cynthia Ann was married (?) and why would she be still be considered "infant heirs of Richard McCallister"?

Calvary McCallister also served as the guardian for Perry H. McCallister, "a settlement ... of the guardian account of Calvary McCallister, guardian of Perry H. McCallister ... filed ... 14 January 1888." this is on p. 55 of Putnam county WV Court Orders, dated Wednesday July 18, 1888.

My name is Douglas (Doug) Locke Hensley. I recently received a copy from my mother of the family tree as compiled by my fathers 2nd cousin Clyde Hensley. So I have suddently become interested in research. I went out and bought the Family Tree Maker 5.0 software and am fumbling my way through. It appears the

connection we share is through the marriage of Fretwell Goolsby Hensley and Edicie McCallister, thank goodness the Fretwell name was not continued. The information from Clyde shows a Benjamin Hensley who was married to Susannah. Benjamin died about 1788, no info on Susannah. I show that Benjamin had the following children, John, William, Lewis, Clifford, Samuel and Jenny. I also have vague info on Benjamin's father being Samuel Hensley.

Any info will be greatly appreciated and of course I can share what I have. I'm still learning the software, only had it 2 days.

I would like to help make identification of parents of Thomas H. McCallister (born 6 Mar 1870) to Jackson McCallister and Eliza Taylor.

I believe that Thomas H. McCallister (1870) and Thomas McCallister (1868) are the same person.

Supporting document is Thomas H. McCallister's death certificate dated 15 Mar 1947. Saying that Thomas died on 12 Mar 1947 in Lincoln County, WV.

The certificate gives his date of birth as Mar. 6, 1870. (Only source for DOB). It also states that his parents are Jack McCallister and Eliza Grass. I believe Eliza to be an error and should be Eliza Taylor with Eliza Grass being his grandmother. This information was given by Mathew Spurlock for Alice McCallister widow of Thomas H. McCallister.

Notes for William Hamilton McCallister:

The family secret has been that William was born out of wedlock to an Armstrong. Confirmed per tel conversation between David McCallister & Delphia (McCallister) Vickers in Jan 1997 and also that William was born near Maul Creek. His father was an Armstrong. In the 1850 Putnam Co WV census there were three brothers who were the only single Armstrongs. John Adison, or Archibald.

Marriage Record: William McCallister & Elizabeth Zirkle were married 12 August 1873 by Daniel Ash. Per marriage record William was born in Benton County, Arkansas. Suspect this was a ruse to cover up the fact that he was illigitimate.

William McCallister was called "Squire Bill" because he was a justice of the peace, or a magistrate. William was a general farmer who owned his own farm. He and his wife were both able to read and write. Joetta (McCallister) Kuhn reports that she has seen his name on quite a few documents as a Justice of the Peace.

W. H. McCallister age 76 married of lobar pneumonia age 76 years Jan 5, 1923

The Aug 1981 journal of the Kanawha Valley Genealogical Society reported that a book in the Huntington Public library showed members of Masonic Lodges in WV. The journal reported that a W.H. McCallister was a member of the Griffithsville Lodge #71 in 1899-1900. I called Leander Beasley, the lodge secretary, in June 1997 and he reported that W.H. McCallister was a charter member of the lodge. I asked him if he could see if there was any more data on him, but he never responded.

My personal theory as to why several children of William's had a middle name of Hansford is that they were named after the doctor who delivered them. On the 1850 Putnam Co VA census, in household # 9-11 there is a Lyndenham Hansford, age 31 (38?) who is a physician.

My grandmother told me there were a couple of old lithographs of her father in-law in the hands of one of her kids. I found an old lithograph behind the wedding photo of Hobert (son of William H.) and my grandmother Elsie. My dad says it is his grandfather. I remember seeing the other lithograph when I was about 15 years old. It had William sitting at the head of a long dinner table with a lot of offspring on either side (Hanging on a hook on the wall behind him was a bullwhip, which my grandmother said he used if anyone spoke). I believe my uncle has that lithograph and it will be in my possession shortly.

82. Jason Rice⁵ McCallister (Cynthia⁴, Richard³, Joseph², James?¹) was born 27 July 1850, and died 24 December 1937 in Midkiff Cemetary, Sumerco, Lincoln Co WV. He married Zinnia Elizabeth Tackett EST 1870 in Kanawha Co WV, daughter of William Tackitt and Elizabeth Pauley.

Email from Sandy (BoneDiggin@aol.com). She was checking census for Jason and William. I looked in all the census, even Boone Co., but couldn't find William H. McCallister, nor Jason M. I checked the History Books of both Cos. also. If I run across them, I sure will let you know. Sandy

Per Tel conversation between Delphia (McCallister) Vickers and David McCallister in Jan 1997, Jason's father's name was Hensley. There are only three single Hensley males in Putnam Co on the 1850 census for when Jason was born. They were James, Francis, and Shelton.
