So Whose Marriage is it Anyway, J04 or J43?

Several times each month I have people citing an erroneous marriage to me. People cite Richard born 1792 as having married Sarah NICKELL (sometimes cited as NICHOLAS) on Jan 11 1821 in Kanawha Co VA. That is not correct. Some people in the past have done research without looking at the full data and people keep rehashing that over and over. It was Richard born 1802 who married Sarah NICHOLAS Jan 11 1821 in Kanawha Co VA.

Here are the facts:

Fact 1. On a list by William Wood, 1820-1822 marriages, 6th item is:

Richard McCallister - Sarah Nicholas, Jan. 11, 1821.

Fact 2. Richard's father Joseph had a land grant in Kanawha Co on 4 Nov 1832. Description reads that it adjoins John NICHOLAS' land (Sarah's father). This land is in what is now southern Putnam Co

Fact 3. 1850 Putnam Co census shows Richard, wife Sarah and son Perry in same household

1850 Putnam County, VA #675-699 (done on 2 Aug)

So, as you can see, what everyone else is claiming is erroneous. It just goes to show that you must VERIFY all genealogy data that people give you.
