Not only for what you are
but for what I am when I am
when I'm with you

For the part of me
that you bring out
            .
For putting your hand into
my heaped-up heart
and passing over all the
foolish weak things
that you can't help
dimly seeing there
and for drawing out
into the light all the
beautiful belongings
that no-one else had looked
quite far enough to find

because you are helping me
to make of the lumber of my life
not a Tavern but a temple
out of the works of my.
every-day not a reproach
but a song

He is Just Away
You cannot say
You must not say
That he is dead
He's just away!
With a cheery smile
And a wave of the hand
He has wandered
Into another land
And left us dreaming
How very fair
It needs must be,
He lingers there.
So think of him as
Faring on, as dear
In the love of There
As in the love of Here
Think of him still
As the same, and say
He is not dead!
He's just away!

Today I Smiled  . . . . .
.. . . .and all at once
Things didn't look so bad
Today I shared with
someone else
A bit of hope I had
Today I sang a little song
And felt my heart go light
And walked a happy little mile
With not a cloud in sight
Today I worked with
what I had
And longed for nothing more
And what had seemed
like only weeds
Were flowers at my door
Today I loved a little more
Complained a little less
And in the giving of myself
Forgot my weariness

Hugs
There's something special in a HUG
That always warms the Heart
It welcomes us back home
And makes it easier to part
A Hug's a way to share the joy
And sad times we go through
Or just a way for friends to say
They like you 'cos you're You
Hugs are meant for anyone
For whom we really care
From Grandma to a neighbour
Or a cuddly teddy bear
A Hug is an amazing thing
It's just the perfect way
To show the love we're feeling
But can't find the words to say
It's funny hoe a little Hug
Makes everyone feel good
In every place and language
It's always understood
And Hugs don't need new equipment
Special batteries or new parts
Just open wide your arms
And open up your Hearts

The Power Of Words

A careless word
may kindle strife
A cruel word
may wreck a life
A bitter word
may hate instill
A brutal word
may smite and kill
A gracious word
may smooth the way
A joyous word
may light the day
A timely word
may lessen stress
A loving word
may heal and bless

The Things We
Give Away
When we give  a flower away
it's fragrance stays behind
Like a special little
"Thank You"
For doing something kind
When we give a pleasant word
To cheer someone's distress
The glow of it remains with us
To bring us happiness
When we give a loving smile
To lighten someone's heart
Our own is always lightened
By the love that we impart
In fact the sweetest thing of all
That brings us joy each day
Are not the ones we try to keep,
But those we give away

When tomorrow. . . .
starts without me
and I'm not there to see
If the sun should rise and find your eyes
all filled with tears for me
I wish so much you wouldn't cry
the way you did today
While thinking of the many things
we didn't get to say
I know how much you love me
as much as I love you
And each time you think of me
I know you'll miss me too
But when tomorrow starts without me
please try to understand
That an Angel came and called my name
and took me by the hand
And said my place was ready
In heaven up above
And said I'd have to leave behind
all those I dearly love
But as I turned to walk away
a tear fell from my eye
For all my life I'd always thought
I didn't want to die
I had so much to live for,
so much yet to do
It seemed almost impossible,
that I was leaving you
I thought of all the yesterdays,
the good ones and the bad
I thought of all the love we shared,
and all the fun we had
If I could relive yesterday,
yet even for a while
I'd say goodbye and kiss you,
and maybe see you smile
And then I fully realised
that this could never be
For emptiness and memories
would take the place of me
And when I thought of worldly things
I might miss,  come tomorrow
I thought of you and when I did,
my heart was filled with sorrow
But when I walked through heaven's gates
I felt so much at home
When God looked down
and smiled at me from
His golden throne
He said "This is eternity,
and all I've promised you
Today your life on earth is past,
but here it starts anew
So when tomorrow starts without me,
don't think we're far apart
For every time you think of me,
I'm right here in your heart.

Why God Made Little Boys. . .
God made a world
out of his dreams,
Of wondrous mountains,
oceans and streams,
Prairies and plains
and wooded land,
Then paused and thought,
"I need someone to stand
on top of the mountains
To conquer the seas,
explore the plains and
Climb the trees, someone
to start small and grow,
 Sturdy, strong
like a tree and so...
He created boys,
full of spirit and fun,
To explore and conquer,
to romp and run,
With dirty faces,
banged up chins
With courageous hearts
and boyish grins."
When He had completed
the task He'd begun,
He surely said,
"That's a job well done."

Why God Made Little Girls . . .
God made the world
with its towering trees
Majestic mountains
and restless seas
Then paused and said,
"It needs one more thing
Someone to laugh
and dance and sing
To walk in the woods
and gather flowers
To commune with nature
in quiet hours."
So God made little girls
With laughing eyes
and bouncing curls
With joyful hearts
and infectious smiles
Enchanting ways
and feminine wiles,
And when He'd completed
the task He'd begun,
He was pleased and proud
of the job He'd done
For the world when seen
through a little girl's eyes
Greatly resembles Paradise
