Maps of Current Location of the grave of Major John Marjoribanks

The last Battle that Major Marjoribanks was in was the Battle of Eutaw Springs (formerly in Berkeley County SC but now in Orangeburg County SC). He fell sick on the retreat from Eutaw Springs to Charleston & died and was buried there on October 22, 1781 on the Ravenel's plantation -- Wantoot Plantation. In 1941 the Public Service Authority empounded Lake Moultrie covering Wantoot Plantation & they moved his grave to the Eutaw Springs Battlefield, a SC state park of about 3 acres.
There are about 2 other graves in the park with Major Marjoribanks grave.

On the map below, the grave yard at the park is shown as a dashed rectangle. In the rectangle is a circle enclosing a dot which represents the historic marker for Major Marjoribanks and North Hampton Plantation (which adjoined Wantoot Plantation). You are looking at an 8.5" by 14 inch color xerox of the Eutawville 1979 USGS 7.5 minute 1:24,000 Quadrangle topo map with a 5 foot contour interval. It is 100 dpi and 100% (i.e. neither enlarged nor reduced). It was scanned in as a 3.4 Meg tiff & converted to a 760,362 byte jpeg file. Be patient. These will take some time for your browser to fetch. When it arrives use the slides to find in the middle of the scanned map, "Eutaw Springs" and the "Historical Marker" and "Cem". Click here if you would like to see a 300% enlargement of the area around the Battlefield Park from the same color xerox but at 300 dpi. It is 960,695 bytes.
