Dear Mr. Green,
Received all your great information this morning and what
a real pleasure. I might not have realized the connection with
your Abram Gibbs had the material not listed the relation between
Prof. McAdoo and your Gibbs. I will send a copy of the first 3 pages
of the Nicholas Gibbs History I am working on now. Wm. Gibbs McAdoo
Sr. & his son Wm. Gibbs McAdoo Jr. were great grandson & gr-gr. of
my 5th great grandfather Nicholas Gibbs, brother to Abraham (Abram)
Gibbs. In 1846 a Mr. Thomas Miller of Knoxville said that his
brother, residing in Baltimore married a daughter of Abraham Gibbs
and that Mrs. Miller had in her possession her father's Bible.
Abraham settled in Fredericktown(now Frederick), Md. Baptismal
and confirmation records of the First German Reformed and Evangelical
Lutheran Churches of Frederick, Md. show several children of Abraham
and Maria Fox Gibbs. The first church record found on Abraham Gibbs
in Frederick was in the records of the Evangelical Lutheran Church
showing that on Feb. 12, 1753, a daughter was baptized; on Aug. 8
1754 a daughter, Maria Dorothea and July 13, 1756 was recorded the
birth of 2 daus. to Abraham Gips, one named Anna Margaretha, On July
30, 1758 a dau.Eva Margaret was born to Abraham Gibs and wife Maria.
The records of the same church record the birth of a son Johan Jacob
on March 13, 1761 to Abraham Gibs et ux.
The records of the First German Reformed Church p.68 show that
on Dec. 28, 1760 Johann, son of Abraham Gibs & wife Maria was baptised.
In a letter written in Baltimore, Md. Jan. 1, 1841 by Benja. B.
Snyder to Geo. Washington Gibbs(son of Nicholas) now in possession
of Mrs. John G. Bell of Washington, D.C., be stated that Abraham Gibbs
married Marie Fox in Frederick Town & had the following children:
End of Page 1 and Start of Page 2
Ann Marie, Nicholas, Catherine, Abraham, Margaret, Elizabeth &
Dorothy. Dorothy had 2 daus., May & Rebecca and Mr. Snyder had married
one of May's daughters. He did not mention Johann or John Jacob in
his list of Abraham's children. Since your material does show that
your Abram & Prof. McAdoo were related then Priscilla was left from
the list or was the daughter of Abraham Gibbs Jr. From the dates
and what was printed it does appear she was the dau. of Abraham Sr.
She might have been born after this list of children or have another
name and listed above.
Sure hope this will be of help to you. I am just sorry I haven't
found more about Abraham and his family but most of my research has
been on Nicholas. Maybe now we both can help each other and find more
of the Gibbs descendants. I'm almost ready to believe I've found too
many of Nicholas' family. It keeps growing everyday and I keep
splicing in new material until what I have typed is getting very
messy and out of order. What I have done is far from a final so at
least I am getting it all in some order for the book.
I keep writing every Gibbs I can find but usually no relation.
I never realized until I got into researching N.C. that Gibbs there
was such a large name and most of the time no connection, which makes
it harder to weed out and find those I need from our own Gibbs line.
I do hope this will help and please write again and I will do
the same. I will surely find more on the Gibbs as I work on all this.

                                                Sincerely,
                                             Sonja Collins

P.S.Would you like more on Nicholas' family? I couldn't send it
all but at least his ch & grandchildren. I have several
hundred pages typed now on descendants for the book. The 4
copied pages I am sending will probably be used in the
book, maybe not in this exact form.

April 23, 1975 Corryton, Tn. Dear Cousin, Thanks so much for the ship records. How on earth did anyone ever read them? I know now I've never seen these original records as the Strassburg & Rupp's lists I have copied were all type written. They are sure nice. Have you joined the Gibbs Soc. yet? Be sure and do so. If so you will probably get a letter abt. our meeting. If not it will be June 22 Sunday 3:00 Gibbs elem. school, Tazewell Pk. Everyone would love to meet you if you could possibly come. The address you wanted is: Mr. Francis E. Pray, 114 Busbee Road, Knoxville, Tn. 37920. His material will be included in the magazine material I am copying and sending. You may wish to write him anyway as he would be happy to hear from you. He will be doing a great deal towards the book and is writing the introduction along with the material on Barbara Gibbs, his wife's ansc. with the help of his wife. His article will also be in the Gibbs book along with all the Gibbs history we can find and able to get. Perhaps more would be included on Abraham if we were able to find it or learn more of him. You might ask Francis' opinion, hes really good at this type of thing, research & also printing procedures etc. I'm sending you a picture (keep) of the marker in front of Gibbs High School. There is also a marker on the road at the foot of the hill where Nicholas is buried, not far from the school & also his old home (just down the road) east, on Emory. When I get to deep or technical I get lost, guess my mind just doesn't function too well. I found so many Gibbs in NC I had to forget all of them except Nicholas' line to keep from getting confused and mixed with other Gibbs families, possibly many from England, but back farther in time, if ours did orig. in England possibly related to the others. End of Page 1 and start of Page 2 Sorry the copying is so bad once again. In some places it did well, hope it will be readable. My husband is going to get me some books from the library this week or next, perhaps I will find new material on our Gibbs then. Hope so. I will write again soon. Sincerely, Sonja
APR. 11 1976 DEAR JAMES, We had a meeting today to plan our Summer Meeting. MRS. Nichols was there & gave me the magazines & asked me to mail yours. It is difficult for her to get to the P.O. must close now. We are off one week for Easter & are going to St. Augustine, Fla. for 3 or 4 days this week. Keep in touch. Sonja
