There was a register for everyone to sign, giving their snail & email
addresses so they could be mailed an invitation next year. There were
also name tag tags on the registration table & a ball point pen for people
to make themselves a name tag. I counted 27 people eating inside & 4
outside for a total of 31 at the reunion. One lady left before we
ate, so at least 32 came. I arrived 30 minutes late, arriving at 2
PM. We ate from about 2:15 PM to 3:15 PM. After we ate, we had a short meeting. I do not recall who won the prize for best dish, oldest attending, or who traveled the farthest. Bud brought his computer with database and notebooks containing a printouts from his database. He gave everyone one of his booklets on the descendants of Adam Bolick that he had printed years ago shortly after he started collecting data. I brought 20 NC road maps from the NC Welcome Center & left them on the registration table marked "Free maps" & about 10 maps were adopted by the end of the reunion. Before Paulma Laws, Mrs. Benefield from Maryland, & others left, I mentioned that 2003 would be the 250th anniversary of Adam Bolick coming to America & that I thought Mrs. Benefield from Maryland & I had once suggested we should have a big reunion in 2003 to celebrate that. We mentioned the big reunion that Wes Bolick had done. Everyone was gone by 4:30 PM, except Carroll "Bud" Bolick & myself. Carroll & I talked until nearly dark (7 PM). I made a sketch of the facilities with Carroll's help (see below). We talked of what could be done for a big reunion: music & boat rides had been mentioned earlier. I mentioned the Killians had talked of making a coin to celebrate the 300th birthday of their immigrant ancestor. I mentioned the Cline Reunion has a 3 day reunion every other year. I said Carroll might really be able to get some data in if we had camping. Carroll said the Bethlehem Wildlife Club (where we met) allows camping for $5 per night. There is room for 5 to 10 campers in the parking lot & 5 to 10 tents on the grass terrace between the parking lot & the lake. There are 7 outlet boxes among the camping spots with 2 outlets in each box. Each outlet is a 3 prong outlet. There are 4 water faucets in the camping area. There are 2 bathrooms there & one shower. There is a concrete boat ramp, 3 places to dock boats at a pier. There is a diving board on a platform. There is a sunning platform. There is a platform with a slide on it to climb up & then slide down into the water. There are 11 picnic tables & an open & a closed BBQ pit & a horseshoes pit. Inside there are 2 stoves, 2 refrigerators, a double sink, and a fireplace. I think it might be nice to stay over night & get to know each other. |

| I saw no one taking pictures this year. At 7 PM I went looking for Wes Bolick's house to talk to him about helping with next year's reunion, but I did not find his home. Then I went to Hickory to see Oktoberfest since Bud said his grandson wanted to go to Oktoberfest rather than the reunion & I have never been to an Oktoberfest & understand it is German & the Bolicks are German. I thought there might be something from Oktoberfest that we could do at the reunion to improve it. I learned there had was an Oom-pa band earlier. Kingspor Sandpaper -- a German company was sponsoring a tent & Beer Garden tent. There were rides, vendors, polititions, & rock bands. This Oktoberfest seemed to not be a German festival, but rather mostly just a a generic festival in October (taking the word Oktoberfest literally). I left at 10:10 PM. |
