Everyone was supposed to sign the register giving their snail & email
addresses so they could be mailed an invitation next year. Everyone was
also supposed to make themselves a name tag & fill out their name on a slip
of paper provided for the drawing of the 3 door prizes. I counted over 55
people eating. Others came late so I estimate there were 60 to 70 people
present. After we ate, we had a short meeting conducted by Mrs. Paulma Laws (with help from Wes Bolick). About 20 did not come in to the meeting. Of those that were in the meeting, about 11 held up their hands that they were from SC, 5 or 11 from FL, 2 from MD, 15 from NC, 5 from Alexander Co. NC, 1 from NV who won the prize for coming the farthest. None were from GA & none from from TN. About 10 were from VA. Someone wrote down the numbers. I am reciting this from memory so it will change. Corrections are welcome. There were 3 door prizes. Caroll "Bud" Bolick won the 3rd door prize. Mrs. Hazel Hicks won the 2nd door prize. I'll give a fuller more accurate report when I have time to listen to my video tape. There was an award for best dish brought. The person to win the prize for being the oldest was a lady who was 81. It was announced that there was a plastic box on the table labeled "kitty" for us to put donations in for next year's plates plastic forks, etc. I gave away to charts of the descendants of my great grandfather whose mom was Melinda Catherine Bolick & gave out Confederate pennies & 1 Confederate NC quarter & gave away one NCX flag for a $5 donation & 1 NCX plastic license plate for a $1 donation. I had on a Southern cross hat & Confederate flag belt & pin. Others had on a confederate bandana & T-shirts. I have Southern Cross let us vote signs at each end of my car & a Southern Cross window flag up. Other things must have happened, but I cannot report what I don't know about so let me have corrections & additional info. Some people took pictures & others took video of the group shown assembled below. Sadly we did not think to gather for a group photo until some had already left on Wes Bolick's pontoon boat. Tom Hood's wife mailed me these photos postmarked 26 October & received by me 27 October 2001. I passed 2 pads down the 4 rows (right to left) for people to sign so that we know who was where in the photo. Here is the caption, left to right: |

I told several people my email address & the url of my Bolick page & in
the meeting I told the group about the Bolch list at RootsWeb.com, writing
down how to subscribe for several people. I told some of them about the
proposed Confederate monument (which is to sit by the current Confederate
monument at the old Catawba County Courthouse) listing those that died in
service to the CSA (See my web page listing
Confederate BOLCHs & BOLICKs of Catawba County. Carroll Bolick & I
stayed until 8 PM searching his database for additional info on the
Confederate soldiers named Bolch & Bolick. |
