1999 Battle of Baton Rouge Ceremonies

Our Chapter was part of the 16th annual commemoration of the Battle of Baton Rouge on August 7, 1999 at Magnolia Cemetery, during which our namesake was portrayed by Ms. Julie Hogue.

Foundation for Historical Louisiana President George Jenne welcomed visitors after which Dr. Lonnie Sibley gave an Invocation. The Flag was raised by the 5th Company Washington Artillery, dressed in Confederate uniforms, who also gave the cannon salute. Conditions in Baton Rouge at the time of the battle were addressed by guest speaker Charles Elliot.

Joanna Waddill Chapter President Frankie Platte and past President Eula Lipscomb presented Crosses of Military Service to Wordy A. Normand, (right) a World War II veteran and his son, Larry, a Vietnam veteran.
