one graceful dawn, the glorious sun arose to find that her brilliant glimmering cloak had been stolen during the night. Oh, how could she bring daylight to all the world below. The children would be so joyless, living in a world of complete darkness. Who would do such a cruel thing? It couldn't have been the wind he was to busy racing from one place to another and never paid much attention to the glorious sun. It couldn't have been the clouds, playfull as children playing peek a boo with her warm rays. The moon? Would the king of night do such a thing? Why? At that moment there seemed to be sunrise. how could the morning be breaking without the sun to guide it's way?

It was the envious moon wrapped in her glimmering cloak. "Oh dear moon!",cried the sun. "why would you play such a trick on one so poor as myself? You are the one who is truly worshippd. You are the most beautiful sight in the sky at night. When you show your face, you are truly the most divine sight. Why would you want to be me? i am so plain and never changing. People hide from me under hats and shut their blinds to keep out my heat." "You are what they want! Your coolmess to relieve them from a long hot day." The moon quite enjoyed this worship and agreed to five the sun back her cloak if she would agree that for six months out of the year, she would rise later and set earlier,so that he could get the praise and recognition that he so deserved. The sun was surprised by her own wittiness. She new that around the world people lay on beaches and praised her heat after the long cold winter. They prayed for her to show her face on a long dreary day. How the plants and animals thrived on her. She had tricked the moon, who had few moments in time. Surely people liked to see his full face every so often, but he knew that he had been fooled by the sun and often hid his face in embarrassment and shame. pamela payne'97
