PLAYSCAPETwo years ago, the Pilot Club of Quitman decided to initiate a project to benefit the community. Many plans and possible projects were discussed. The City of Quitman recently acquired ownership of Jim Hogg Park, formerly owned by the state. Not many improvements have been made to the park in recent years, so the club decided to look into purchasing some new playground equipment for the park. Since the Pilot Club is active in helping with handicapped children in the community, the decision was made to purchase a system that would be handicap accessible. Many hours of research and discussion including safety and longevity were conducted, and the decision to purchase the PLAYSCAPE playground was reached. This playground is not made of wood, therefore reducing chance of injuries such as splinters, and also increasing the life of the material in the weather. This project requires large amounts of money. The completed playground will cost approximately $40,000. The equipment is purchasable in units, costing approximately $10,000 each. The Pilot Club opened a bank account approximately a year and a half ago with an initial deposit of $5000. Many fundraisers for this event will be held, including the Rolex Watch raffle. Donations can be made anonymously to the account at First National Bank of Quitman, Texas. Donations are accepted by any Pilot Club of Quitman member.
