Student of the Month
During the school year, each month (September-May), the Pilot Club of Quitman
honors a "student of the month" from Quitman High School. The
student selected each month is invited to the monthly meeting, where the
students share information about themselves, and are presented with a gift on
behalf of the Pilot Club of Quitman.
Scholarship
Each year, the Pilot Club of Quitman awards a $1500.00 scholarship to an
outstanding graduate of Quitman High School.
Special Olympics
The Pilot Club of Quitman hosts the local Special Olympics each year.
The Special Olympics for 2000 will be held on March 11, with March 18th as an
alternate date.
Mountain High Camp
Mountain High is a unique summer camp for young adults with Brain
injuries. Sponsored by Faith Mountain Fellowship Church, Red River, New
Mexico, and Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation in Dallas, Texas.
Coordinated with love by Mike and Charlotte Wilson of Winnsboro, Texas and Julie
and Ben Fallin of Red River. Each camp begins the 3rd Sunday of August for
5 days. 1998 was the fifth year for this camp to operate. Each year, the
Pilot Club of Quitman sponsors one camper who would otherwise be unable to
attend.
Higher Ground Camp Retreat
Higher Ground Camp is a retreat near Brenham, Texas. This is a weekend
encampment for persons with brain injury. At this camp about 30 brain
injured campers along with volunteers from different areas (Pilot included) come
for entertainment and dancing. The camp is held in October or
November. The Pilot Club of Quitman will sponsor two campers this
year. We are planning to have some of the Pilots from Quitman attend as
volunteers.
Humanitarian Award
Each year, the Pilot Club of Quitman recognizes a citizen for outstanding
service in the community.
Christmas Sharing
The Pilot Club of Quitman participates in the Christmas Caring canned food
drive each year. We collect food items for donation.
Volunteer Fire Department
Each year, the Pilot Club of Quitman furnishes candy for the fire department
to give out to children each year at Christmas.
Bingo
We will be working on a special craft project that we will all participate in
with our Anchor Club. We will have a work night that we make door wreaths
or similar bingo prizes for our local nursing homes. The Anchor Club will
be helping and will give us the opportunity to work together.
Quitman Public Library
Each year, the Pilot Club of Quitman helps the local library to set up and
run a week-long book sale.
Appreciation Award
This award is given if some person or business does something for our club
above and beyond daily support. The person will be given a certificate and
the $25 will be given as a donation to th charity of their choice.
