Student of the Month

During the school year, each month (September-May), the Pilot Club of Quitman honors a "student of the month" from Quitman High School.  The student selected each month is invited to the monthly meeting, where the students share information about themselves, and are presented with a gift on behalf of the Pilot Club of Quitman.

Scholarship

Each year, the Pilot Club of Quitman awards a $1500.00 scholarship to an outstanding graduate of Quitman High School.

Special Olympics

The Pilot Club of Quitman hosts the local Special Olympics each year.  The Special Olympics for 2000 will be held on March 11, with March 18th as an alternate date.

Mountain High Camp

Mountain High is a unique summer camp for young adults with Brain injuries.  Sponsored by Faith Mountain Fellowship Church, Red River, New Mexico, and Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation in Dallas, Texas.  Coordinated with love by Mike and Charlotte Wilson of Winnsboro, Texas and Julie and Ben Fallin of Red River.  Each camp begins the 3rd Sunday of August for 5 days. 1998 was the fifth year for this camp to operate.  Each year, the Pilot Club of Quitman sponsors one camper who would otherwise be unable to attend.

Higher Ground Camp Retreat

Higher Ground Camp is a retreat near Brenham, Texas.  This is a weekend encampment for persons with brain injury.  At this camp about 30 brain injured campers along with volunteers from different areas (Pilot included) come for entertainment and dancing.  The camp is held in October or November.  The Pilot Club of Quitman will sponsor two campers this year.  We are planning to have some of the Pilots from Quitman attend as volunteers.

Humanitarian Award

Each year, the Pilot Club of Quitman recognizes a citizen for outstanding service in the community.

Christmas Sharing

The Pilot Club of Quitman participates in the Christmas Caring canned food drive each year.  We collect food items for donation.

Volunteer Fire Department

Each year, the Pilot Club of Quitman furnishes candy for the fire department to give out to children each year at Christmas.

Bingo

We will be working on a special craft project that we will all participate in with our Anchor Club.  We will have a work night that we make door wreaths or similar bingo prizes for our local nursing homes.  The Anchor Club will be helping and will give us the opportunity to work together.

Quitman Public Library

Each year, the Pilot Club of Quitman helps the local library to set up and run a week-long book sale.

Appreciation Award

This award is given if some person or business does something for our club above and beyond daily support.  The person will be given a certificate and the $25 will be given as a donation to th charity of their choice.
