If you run a site that charges for posting adoption listings, please read the following before or in lieu of sending me a nasty e-mail:

I understand that you may be utilizing a great deal of your own time and much of your own money towards the venture you've undertaken, but to take advantage of people is wrong, and that is exactly what many are doing when they insist on "donations" for adoption search listings. Additionally, most states require that unless a person is operating a licensed business with a sales permit from their state Board of Equalization, a registered charity, or a person reporting all money received to the IRS as self-employment income, they are not allowed to charge for services such as this.

(Now please note that I'm not getting down on professional searchers or private investigators. Their job is to devote their time and resources to going over and beyond what anyone else would do to find a "lost" person, and have every right and reason to charge for their services.)

There are more than enough free sites out there, posting adoption listings for nothing but the joy it brings to know that you might be helping someone. I am a busy woman: a devoted mother of three who works weekend nights as a nurse (while my husband is at home with the children), studies towards a degree in Law (while the children are napping, at school, or have gone to bed), and have tons of things I like to occupy my time with; yet I still do this without asking for handouts or thank-you's. It has a long way to go as far as complex programming, but it still serves the purpose. Why don't you examine your intentions and think twice before you cash that next check; there's more to be gained in works of the heart, and your "precious" time and money won't matter once you're gone.

In a hundred years, it will not matter what type of car I drove,

How big of a house I lived in, or what my bank book quoted;

What will matter is that I made a difference in a child's life.
