The following are some of my favorite
Poems of Love and Friendship
(some written by my daughter,
Nina Rayan Stauffer)

The best and most beautiful things cannot be seen or touched. They must be felt with the heart...
Helen Keller

Hope
I gaze upon the open sky
and down again without a sigh
I know there is hope in
One special place
Such as the love and joy
In a child's face
Many emotions I can't explain
These voices inside come
With the rain
Never a doubt to carry on
I see the intricate mysteries
Of the dawn
A special twilight shinning on me
This special star I try to see
Often I feel it near
It helps to cover my fears
Across the canyons of yesterday
No one can explain why one
Feels this way
When this power is yours
And mine
We will finally see that
  One star shine.

Take Time

Take time to be friendly, it is the road to happiness. Take time to dream, it is hitching your wagon to a star. Take time to love and to be loved, it is the privilege of the gods. Take time to laugh, it is the music of the soul.
~~Old English Prayer~~

She Walks in Beauty

She walks in beauty, like the night Of cloudless climes and starry skies; And all that's best of dark and bright Meet in her aspect and her eyes: Thus mellow'd to that tender light Which heaven to gaudy day denies. One shade the more, one ray the less, Had half impair'd the nameless grace Which waves in every raven tress, Or softly lightens o'er her face; Where thoughts serenely sweet express How pure, how dear their dwelling-place. And on that cheek, and o'er that brow, So soft, so calm, yet eloquent, The smiles that win, the tints that glow, But tell of days in goodness spent, A mind at peace with all below, A heart whose love is innocent!
Lord Byron

When I Think Of You

Had I but a single rose Each time I thought of you, My garden would twine Through endless time, So beautiful to view. Had I but a single note Each time I thought of you, My song would last ‘'Til all things passed, And the old became the new. Had I but a single rhyme Each time I thought of you, My poem would extend For miles on end But this will have to do.

Always Have A Dream

Forget about the days when its been cloudy, but don't forget your hours in the sun Forget about the times you've been defeated but don't forget the victories you've won Forget about mistakes that you can't change now but don't forget the lessons that you've learned Forget about misfortunes you encounter but don't forget the times your luck has turned Forget about the days when you've been lonely but don't forget the friendly smiles you've seen Forget about the plans that didn't seem to work out right but don't forget to always have a dream

If You Love Something

If you love something, set it free If it returns to you, it was meant to be If it doesn't, it was not meant to be

How Do I Love Thee?

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I love thee to the depth and breadth and height my soul can reach, when feeling out of sight for the ends of being and ideal grace. I love thee to the level of every day's most quiet need, by sun and candlelight. I love thee fully, as men strive for right; I love thee purely, as they turn from praise. I love thee with the passion put to use in my old grief, and with my childhood's faith. I love thee with a love I seemed to lose with my lost saints--I love thee with the breath, smiles, tears, of all my life!--and, if God choose I shall but love thee better after death.
Author: Elizabeth Barrett Browning, "Sonnet 43"

It takes a long time to grow an old friend

I Care

I hope that you know That I care about you I'll try to show you, So you'll know that it's true I care about what happens, Each day of your life I want to tell you, That I'll always be here It doesn't change anything Whether I'm far away or near I want to share all Of your smiles and your tears I want you to tell me Your hopes dreams and fears You've told me before and I'll tell you again Now and forever I'll always be your friend

Always Have A Dream

Forget about the days when it's been cloudy, but not the hours in the sun.
Forget about the times you've been defeated, but not the victories you have won.
Forget about the mistakes that you can't change them anyhow, but don't forget the lessons.
Forget about the misfortunes you've encountered, but don't forget the times your luck has turned.
Forget about the days when you've been lonely, but don't forget the friendly smiles that you have seen.
Forget about the plans that didn't work out quite right, but don't forget to "Always have a dream"!
