 Picton

The Ferry for the South Island departs in Wellington in the North Island and Picton in the South Island <-----Picton located at the top of the South Island.
The trip is about 3 hours long and winds throught the Marlborough Sounds. At the end of the trip you arrive at Picton which is
a small town that caters for travellers needs as they prepare to explore the South Island.
This area of New Zealand is an intricate maze of water and land and there are plenty of beautiful bush walks thu native bush
and many coves and small beaches to enjoy.
Picton is situated in Marlborough and this region is one of the most sunniest areas in New Zealand.

is situated on the top of the South Island and is the sunniest region in New
Zealand. Marlborough is the premium wine region in the country and most of the grapes
are grown around the town of Blenheim. The beautiful town of Nelson further to the west
 is a popular town for travellers as it is the gateway to the Westcoast region. Nelson has its
own ski field named Rainbow Ski Field and there are also many beautiful beaches in the  area to enjoy.
 Further west of Nelson are 3 National Parks. The first park The Abel Tasman National Park is a very scenic park that takes in the best coastal scenery New Zealand has to offer. There are many white and gold sandy beaches and coves
which are hidden amongst the rainforest. The Abel Tasman Track is the main track through the park is the most popular tramp in New Zealand.
 

Kahurangi National Park is New Zealands second biggest park after Fiordland and is the newest addition to New Zealands superb network of National Parks. The park has beautiful coastal scenery from the wild west coast to Farewell Spit a protected area of sand dunes. Inland from the coast is the northern tip of the huge Southern Alps mountain range. Kahurangi National Park also has many caves including the deepest cave in the southern hemishere.
Further to the south lies Nelson Lakes National Park which has beautiful mountain and lake scenery with many walking tracks for all levels of fitness The Marlborough Sounds is also worth a visit. The ferry to the North Island travels through the Sounds and you can see the many islands and coves. The area is famous for its fishing and there are also many beautiful bush walks in the area.
