Island Near Tauranga and Te Puke
The
East Coast of the North Island contains the East Cape and Hawkes Bay.
The
East Cape is the first part of New Zealand that a European set foot on
but remains one of the most isolated areas of the North
Island today. The Cape (as it is affectionately known) in the north, is
a scenic and rugged area which experiences the hottest
summers in the North Island. This area of New Zealand has many beaches
and is the home of the biggest national
park in the North Island the Urewera National Park.
Gisborne
Gisborne
is the biggest town on the Cape and the first city in the world to see
the new day.
In
fact Gisborne will be a very popular place to be on the dawn of the new
millenium as it will be the first place in the world to see the light of
the first day in the year 2000 and the city is preparing itself for the
expected huge influx of tourists.
