The East Coast of the North Island contains the East Cape and Hawkes Bay.
The East Cape is the first part of New Zealand that a European set foot on but remains one of the most isolated areas of the North Island today. The Cape (as it is affectionately known) in the north, is a scenic and rugged area which experiences the hottest summers in the North Island. This area of New Zealand has many beaches and is the home of the biggest national park in the North Island the Urewera National Park.
