Generation No. 3

 4.  William Peter3 Hibdon , Sr. (John2, Seth1) was born 1798 in Tennessee, and died 1843-1845 in Ilinois or
Missouri.  He married Mary Elmore.

Notes for William Peter Hibdon , Sr.:
Peter (1798) and Mary Elmore(1801) Hibdon were born in Tennessee.
In 1820 Census William Peter lived in Warren county, Tennessee.
Mary went to Morgan county, Missouri about 1841.
Peter's parents are John and Vina Elmore Hibdon. Their children are Thomas,
Melvina, Henry, Ralph, Peter, and George. The family left Tennessee and moved to Illinois.  Peter left the family in
Illinois and traveled to Morgan County, Missouri where he purchased  land in 1841. Upon his return to Illinois, he
became sick and died. Mary brought the children on her own and settled on the land Peter had bought for them. It is
possible that one son returned to Illinois to live and that they may have left a daughter in Tennessee.

"I received the following notes from Marie Hibdon Haynes but I do not know who wrote them."

"Peter Hibdon born in Tennessee about 1800
Buried: some family members have said he went back to Jerseyville, Illinois and is buried there.  Essie Hibdon says that
he came with family to the homestead on Soap Creek.  He died and is buried in the old Rastover School yard with a
brother Phillip.  No record of him being removed when the Lake of the Ozarks was built.  The old school is now under
water.
He took out a land grant in St. Louis, Missouri in 1840.
Census records state two sons were born in Missouri.  Therefore I believe he came with his wife, Mary Elmore Hibdon
and children to Soap Creek homestead.  They came to Soap Creek in 1845
My father, Fred Hibdon, had told me that there were brothers of Mary Elmore Hibdon in the area also, they had settled
around Climax Springs, Missouri.  One time when Grandpa Tom Hibdon was a mail carrier he was traveling south of
Gravois Mills on horseback.  A man with a mask over his face jumped from the bushes beside the road onto his horse
behind him and tried to grab his mail bags.  He didn't succeed, Grandapa Tom was sure it was one of the Elmore's.
Dad has said that Grandpa Tom and a brother used to saddle their horses and ride up to Jerseyville, Illinois occasionally.
Some family members have said there was a sister that lived there."

Notes for Mary Elmore:
Mary  came to Morgan county Missouri in 1841 with 5 sons and 1 daughter.
