In 1905 construction of the home was started. He brought in stonelayers from Scotland and also employed a lot of local workers. The castle was to have been 62 rooms, complete with stables, greenhouses and a ninety foot water tower.
One year after starting this castle Mr. Snyder was killed in an automobile accident.
The frame of the castle lay untouched for 17 years until 1923 when Mr. Snyder's sons started reconstructing the castle.
The castle later burned and was never rebuilt. The water tower was burned in the 1940's by vandals.
The castle ruins are now a state park with walkways around the castle, the water tower and the walkways lead down to the Spring which is beautiful
The Lake of the Ozarks was constructed in 1931 and the castle ruins now stand on a high hill overlooking the lake. The stone stable and water tower ruins are also still standing.Return to Main Page - Missouri ResearchReturn to Camden County page of Genealogy in Missouri
